Archbishop George Niederauer
Public Advocate is proud to announce that Archbishop George Niederauer of San Francisco is the recipient of the Family Advocate Award. He was instrumental in forging the alliance between Catholics and Mormons in support of Proposition 8. Without his skill and guidance Proposition 8 may never have been passed.
He reached out to the church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints which according to the San Fancisco Chronicle:
“proved to be a critical move in building a multi-religious coalition - the backbone of the fundraising, organizing and voting support for the successful ballot measure. By bringing together Mormons and Catholics, Niederauer would align the two most powerful religious institutions in the Prop. 8 battle."
