Somalia Ranks Number 2 in Worst Places for Christians and may be Number 1 this year with 150,000 dead

Eugene Delgaudio, president of Public Advocate, says

"Somalia ranks number 2 on a list of ten worst places for Christians in the world right behind North Korea where there is documented mass genocide and instant executions of Christians for years. Forbes reports 70,000 Christians in North Korea prisons for the crime of being Christian. Somalia based Al-Shabaab, on the other hand, over the past ten years has murdered 150,000 Christians in various regions of Africa so this might move Somalia to the number one spot, " says Delgaudio.

Public Advocate is a domestic policy non-profit promoting religious liberty in America. We are demanding all foreign nationals involved in a pattern of deception to fund terrorists groups in Africa and elswhere in the world be deported as an entire class of anti-Christian racketeering. There is no religious liberty possible when U.S. taxpayer dollars through fraud and deception are being used to extinguish thousands of Christians in other countries, " says Delgaudio.

Full Quote from recent study:

Over the last decade, noted the study, militant Islamist groups have been responsible for over 150,000 deaths. The Al Shabaab in Somalia and JNIM (Jama'at Nusrat ul-Islam wa al-Muslimin) affiliate groups in the Sahel have intensified their activities from 2022 in the respective regions leading to fatalities of over 49,000 in each of the two regions in the last decade. The Lake Chad Basin countries have suffered an estimated 39,000 fatalities over this timeframe.

The study focuses on various regions:

A recent report by the Africa Center for Strategic Studies (ACSS) has highlighted a dramatic rise in deaths caused by militant Islamist groups in Africa, most of them Christian.

Over 22,000 fatalities were recorded in the year ending June 2025, most victims being Christians in West, East, and Central Africa.

In Somalia, Al Shabaab's attacks have caused over 6,000 deaths in the last year, while the Islamic State in Somalia (ISS) is growing in influence, serving as a global ISIS hub.

Open Doors reports:

In Somalia, following Jesus is a matter of life and death. Al-Shabab, a violent Islamist militant group, is at war with the government and controls large swathes of the country. This group enforces a strict form of Sharia (Islamic law) and is committed to eradicating Christianity from Somalia. They have often killed Somali Christians on the spot. The dangers have increased over the years, as the militants have increasingly focused on finding and eliminating Christian leaders.
