VIDEO: President Trump Says Communism is greatest threat to U.S.

SPECTRUM NEWS REPORTS:

As the United States prepares to celebrate its achievements during elaborate 250th anniversary celebrations, President Donald Trump focused Friday on what he perceives as the nation's biggest threat to its future: communism.

"It's ironic we're celebrating a very important birthday, our most important birthday so far - 250 years," he said to a crowd of evangelicals and Catholics who are part of the nonprofit Faith and Freedom Coalition, which advocates for traditional family values and religious liberty.

"And instead of speaking about Christ, and instead of speaking about freedom and victories of all different kinds, we're speaking about yet another threat to the foundations of America," he said. "These ruthless communists will attack all religions, but in particular Christianity. They always do."

Trump made the comments days after two Democratic Socialists of America candidates backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani won their primaries and another DSA candidate in Los Angeles beat out a Trump-backed challenger in the LA mayoral race primary.

"Right now, it's happening in New York and California, but you'll live in squalor," Trump said. "There will be no food, there will be no housing, there will be no military, and there will be no law and order. There will be no nothing. You'll be a Third World country in every way, and everyone will suffer or die. That's what happens."

Merriam-Webster defines communism as a system of government in which all goods and property are publicly controlled. Five countries currently operate under a communist system of government, including China, Cuba, Laos, North Korea and Vietnam.

The two DSA candidates who won their races in New York this week - Darializa Avila Chevalier and Claire Valdez - both campaigned on an affordability agenda for working-class Americans.
