Poll Shows 3 Way South Carolina Senate Race
A new Trafalgar Group tracking poll suggests South Carolina's Republican special election for the U.S. Senate is rapidly becoming a three-way battle, with Rep. Russell Fry emerging as a serious contender and raising new questions about the political impact of President Donald Trump's endorsement of appointed Sen. Darline Graham.
The Trafalgar Group survey, conducted July 28-30 among 989 likely Republican voters, found Graham leading with 27.0%, while Fry and Rep. Ralph Norman were tied for second at 17.4%.
Former Gov. Mark Sanford follows at 15.1%, with the remaining candidates in single digits. A sizable 12.4% of voters remain undecided.
With no candidate approaching the 50% threshold needed to avoid a runoff, the poll underscores that the race remains highly competitive and increasingly unpredictable.
The survey carries added significance because Trafalgar founder Robert Cahaly is a South Carolina native who has long specialized in polling Southern elections.
Perhaps the most notable development is Fry's continued rise.
Once viewed as trailing Norman, Fry has now pulled even with him and appears to have momentum heading into the final weeks of the campaign.
Fry has built his reputation as one of Trump's strongest congressional allies.
