Great News: Alabama executes Jeremy Williams for murder of Georgia girl, others
Alabama executed Jeremy Williams by lethal injection Thursday for the 2021 rape and murder of 5-year-old Kamarie Holland of Georgia.
Williams, 42, was pronounced dead at 6:16 p.m. It was Alabama's first execution of the year and one of three carried out in the United States that day-the first time three executions had taken place nationwide on the same day since 2010.
"I want to thank God for forgiving me for my sins so I can meet him in peace," Williams said while strapped to the gurney. He rocked his head back and forth, smiled and appeared to sing or speak before becoming still. A member of his family cried quietly during the execution.
Williams pleaded guilty to killing Kamarie and had written to the Alabama attorney general's office requesting an immediate execution date so her family "may have some type of closure."
Prosecutors said Williams offered the girl's mother $2,500 for the child to perform a sex act. He then raped and strangled Kamarie and recorded the attack.
